Specimen Type: Lavender-top (EDTA) plasma, preferred. Also acceptable are green-top (lithiun heparin) plasma, gel-separated (SST) serum, and standard (red top) serum. For amber plastic transport tube and amber-top, order LabCorp N 23598. Identify specimen with patient's name directly on the container AND on the outside of the aluminum foil. Secure with tape.) For amber plastic transport tube and amber-top, order LabCorp ID 23598.
Specimen Storage: Specimens should be light-protected, and shipped at room temperature or refrigerated (preferred) temperature.
Specimen Collection: The blood is to be collected by venipuncture into a Vacutainer(R) blood collection tube and mixed immediately by gentle inversion at least six times to ensure adequate mixing. Allow serum samples to clot for at least 10 minutes. Separate plasma/serum from red cells by centrifugation. PROTECT FROM LIGHT. Transfer plasma/serum specimen to labeled amber plastic transport tube with amber stopper. For amber plastic transport tube and amber stopper, order LabCorp N 23598.
Specimen Stability: Ambient: 7 days, Refrigerated : 14 days, Frozen: 14 days
