SPECIMEN REQUIREMENTS

Alternate 1 1 mL (0.5) Plasma EDTA (Lavender Top) Frozen
Instructions Patient Prep: Morning fasting specimen preferred.
Serum from SST, or plasma from Lavender EDTA, or Green (lithium heparin).
Allow serum separator tube to sit for 15-20 minutes at Room Temperature
Centrifuge and separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection Transfer 1 mL (Min: 0.5 mL) serum or plasma to a Standard Transport Tube and freeze.
CRITICAL FROZEN. Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered
Unacceptable Conditions: Hemolyzed specimens; Green LiHep or NaHep tubes.
Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: 24 hours; Refrigerated: 48 hours; Frozen: 3 months

Clinical Use CTx is useful to asses bone resorption in patients with metabolic bone disease. The test is also useful in monitoring therapy to slow or halt osteoporotic bone loss.
