SPECIMEN REQUIREMENTS

Instructions Diet, medication, and nutritional supplements may introduce interfering substances. Upon the advice of their physician, patients should be encouraged to discontinue nutritional supplements, vitamins, minerals, and nonessential over-the-counter medications for one week prior to sample draw.
Allow 20-30min for Serum to clot. Centrifuge specimen and pour off serum or plasma into an Trace Element-Free Transport Tube ASAP (Preferably within 2 hours of collection.) Specimens can be transported either Refrigerated or Ambient Temperature.
Please Indicate Specimen type on Transport Tube.
Unacceptable Specimens: Separator tubes or gels. Hemolyzed specimens.
Stability: If the specimen is drawn and stored in the appropriate container, the trace element values do not change with time.

Clinical Use Serum or plasma measurements are best for assessment of deficiency over short periods of time. For acute toxicity, zinc in urine may be a more reliable indicator of exposure.
