Factor 12 (XII) Activity

Order Name FACTOR 12
Test Number: 1501350
Revision Date 12/23/2024
Test Name Methodology LOINC Code
Factor 12 (XII) Activity
Clot Detection 3232-6
SPECIMEN REQUIREMENTS
Specimen Specimen Volume (min) Specimen Type Specimen Container Transport Environment
Preferred 1 mL Double Spun NaCitrate Plasma Sterile, Capped Plastic Tube Frozen
Instructions Collect 2.7mL Sodium Citrate 3.2% (Blue Top) tube must be filled to the proper level, no hemolysis. Improperly filled tubes can give erroneous results.
The specimen must be double spun then 1mL plasma aliquot into individual plastic aliquot tubes and freeze.
Stability Requirements: Room temperature n/a, Refrigerated n/a, Frozen 28 days (Freeze/thaw cycles Stable x3)

Patient Preparation: Ideally, the patient should not be on anticoagulant therapy. Avoid warfarin (Coumadin®) therapy for two weeks prior to the test and heparin, direct Xa, and thrombin inhibitor therapies for about three days prior to testing. Do not draw from an arm with a heparin lock or heparinized catheter. Please indicate anticoagulant therapy.
Cause for Rejection: Severe hemolysis; improper labeling; clotted specimen; specimen diluted with I.V. fluids; samples thawed in transit; improper sample type; sample out of stability

GENERAL INFORMATION
Expected TAT 3-7 Days
Clinical Use This assay measures the clotting abilityof Factor 12. This test is used to evaluate a prolonged aPTT and detect specific coagulation factor XII activity. Direct Xa or thrombin inhibitor therapy may cause factitiously low results.
